Lake Macquarie City Council: Garbage Collection

Well I recently visited my relatives in Lake Macquarie and filmed and photographed some of their trucks. This is my second MJ GenV video, last year I just missed filming a GenV down there, but I filmed one this time. I just missed filming the Solo/SCRAP truck, but I didnt manage to take a few pics of it. I also saw some new GenV's driving around in white, they were not painted in Lake Mac's usual yellow. Maybe this will be their new colour for the new trucks. I also went down to Wyong to help clear out my granddads house down there and I saw one of their garbage Raptors and Greens Raptors, its a real shame to see these trucks in Wyong and not the SMS MJ DART's and Mk3 Refuse's, the new Raptors have none of the character of those trucks. But having said that I am glad Brisbane waited and got their new Raptors now and not earlier. When we were in Newcastle I saw one of Newcastle's Thiess recycling trucks. In Stanthorpe I also saw a giant Richards recycling compactor.

Lake Macquarie City Council (or LMCC) collects the garbage themselves and contracts the recyclables to Solo Waste who use the unique Richards SCRAP compactor to collect East/West divided bins. Paper/cardboard and metals/plastics/glass are not mixed. I didn't realise how big Lake Mac's fleet was. It consists of several late 2009/early2010 MJ GenV's (Not sure on age as the body is very clean, however the hopper is very dirty) in the white colour scheme, some 2008 and 2007 MJ GenV's and some older 2005 and 2006 MJ Mk4's, all of them are 22m MJ Refuse bodies.

The MJ's compared to Brisbane's new 29m SP Raptors are tiny. I was suprised at how small the new GenV's actually appeared, the hopper was really small, but its larger than the Raptor hopper. The 29m Raptors actually aren't huge either, but they make these MJ's look even smaller than they are.

Anyway I saw the new GenV that I filmed doing the streets a fair few blocks over from my grandads house and I hoped that would do my grandads area, and sure enough, about 30 mins later it came over and started the blocks just down from my grandads house. Although I like the new Raptors that we just got in Brisbane, I prefer MacDonald Johnstons all the way, they are faster, and sound better when accelerating and when the lifter is in operation. This new GenV was really nice, a big thanks to the driver for a speedy and entertaining garbage collection. I just love the motion that the Rotagrab arm has when it moves, its so smooth.

Anyway good news I will be visiting Lake Macquarie again in June/July so some more GenV videos to come. Enjoy the photos and video's!
